Infrared CCTV cameras or day/night cameras?

Will low light security CCTV cameras offer better images than infrared security CCTV cameras?

This is a frequently asked question and it really depends upon the enviroment that your CCTV system is in.

Infrared CCTV cameras (cameras with built in infrared) are ideal if the location is dark and has no other lighting in the area, if this is the case then you’ll almost certainly need an infrared camera.  However, if you have some lighting, security lighting or PIR motion activated lighting, then a low light camera will often give you better quality images aswell as offering better colour detail during daylight hours.  Low light cameras will often even give good quality footage in residential street lighting, porch lighting etc.

So our advice on this one would always depend upon the circumstances on site.  If there is decent lighting use a low light, day/night camera – if not then opt for an infrared model.
